Key provisions · Claude summary, not statute text

Jurisdictions have wide latitude over general plan format, but must address every applicable mandatory element.

  • Flexible adoption. The plan may be adopted whole or by element, for all or part of the territory, in any convenient format, including combined elements. (a)
  • Borrowing other plans. A jurisdiction may adopt all or part of another public agency's plan if it is sufficiently detailed and appropriate. (a)
  • Single or multiple documents. The plan may be one document or a group of documents by subject or geographic segment. (b)
  • Scaled detail. Each § 65302 element must be addressed where the subject exists, with detail reflecting local conditions. (c)
  • Housing element unaffected. This section does not change § 65302(c) requirements or expand or limit HCD's housing element review authority. (c)
  • Charter cities. These requirements apply to charter cities. (c)
